Monin Irish Cream Syrup

Monin Irish Cream Syrup is just one of a delicious range of flavours, used by coffee shops such as Costa Coffee and enjoyed across the country and further afield.

The bottles come in a 70cl Glass Bottle, and a 1l Plastic bottle variation which is ideal for bars, cafes and coffee shops, but can also be used at home.

Background

It begins with a hot coffee. This is blended with two contrasting flavours in sugar and whiskey. The sugar provides sweetness, while the whiskey adds a dash of fire to every mouthful. The drink is finished with a thick, enticing cream, which ties together what is a distinctive yet delicious beverage. This is an Irish coffee, and its one of the main inspirations behind Monin Irish Syrup.

With its cream liqueur-based flavour that incorporates coffee, whiskey and cream, Monin Irish Syrup is ideal for adding to smoothies, specialty coffees and desserts. As youd expect, it also offers a straightforward way of transforming a regular coffee into a creamy tasting Irish coffee. Oh, and dont worry about getting tipsy the syrup is non-alcoholic!

The History

Even though its one of the most popular hot beverages sold today, Irish coffee has a relatively short history, and comes from humble beginnings. In the early 1940s, an ambitious chef by the name of Joe Sheridan set up shop in the village of Foynes. It was here where he crafted the drink that would place his name in the history books.

As he worked in Foynes airport restaurant, it wasnt uncommon for Sheridan to be called upon to dish out meals and drinks for passengers from aborted flights due to bad weather. After all, this was Ireland. On one particular day in 1943, a flight to New York had to return back to Foynes as the weather proved too hazardous for flying. Sheridan was called in to provide hot food and beverages for the passengers.

In an effort to add extra warmth to the coffee, Sheridan stuck some high-quality Irish whiskey into the cups and topped with pouring cream. When one of the consumers queried if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridan reportedly replied with the words: No, it was Irish coffee.

With those simple words and combination of flavours a new drink was born. A few years later, in 1951, Irish coffee would arrive in the US. Reporter Stanton Delaplane would sample Sheridans popular concoction, head back home to San Francisco, and try to recreate the beverage at The Buena Vista Cafe. Not long after, The Buena Vista became the citys most flourishing establishment of its kind, and it was all down to Irish coffee.

The Buena Vista, which would go on to hire drink creator Sheridan, is still one of the go-to places for Irish coffee. Although for the full experience, theres only one place to visit for the beverage and the clue is in its name!

Recipe Idea

White Hot Chocolate with Irish Whipped Cream

When you need a super creamy, luscious beverage which provides the perfect warmth during the cold winter nights, look no further than this white hot chocolate. However, its not simply a white hot chocolate. This thirst-quencher is taken to the next level thanks to the addition of Irish whipped cream, which is made with Monin Irish Syrup.

With only a few ingredients most of which youll already find in your kitchen and a really simple step-by-step process, this is a tasty drink that is enticing in more ways than one.

What you will need:

  • Milk (600ml)

  • Double cream (200ml)

  • White chocolate (200g)

  • Vanilla extract (2 tsp)

  • Salt

  • Monin Irish Syrup (60ml)

  • Fresh cream (240ml)

  • Whipped cream dispenser

  • Cream charger

 - In a large pan, place the milk, double cream, white chocolate, vanilla extract and salt. Put the pan on a medium heat and consistently whisk the ingredients. Its important to keep doing this until all of the chocolate has melted fully, and all of the ingredients are smooth. Another vital aspect to remember: do not let your hot chocolate mix to boil!

- With the white hot chocolate ready to go, the next step is to prepare the Irish whipped cream. For this, you will need a whipped cream dispenser. Open up the dispenser, pour in the Monin Irish Syrup and fresh cream, and ensure the device is secured tight. Screw on the cream charger and shake the dispenser with vigour for a few seconds, which will mix the cream and syrup together seamlessly. It will also produce the perfect end product: light and fluffy Irish whipped cream.

- Pour the white hot chocolate into an appropriate glass. Top this with the Irish whipped cream. For an extra touch of chocolatey goodness, you could also pour some milk chocolate sprinkles onto the whipped cream.
