The bottles come in a 70cl Glass Bottle, and a 1l Plastic bottle variation which is ideal for bars, cafes and coffee shops, but can also be used at home.

The History

Whether you refer to it as a donut or doughnut, theres no denying this uniquely shaped pastry has had quite the journey to its current status as an icon of American culture.

In fact, its beginnings can be traced back to a time when the donut wasnt round or with a hole in the centre. In ancient Greece and Rome, they would fry strips of pastry dough and coat it with honey. Theyd also have an alternative where the dough would be doused in fish sauce a variety which, its fair to say, wouldnt be a big seller these days. 

This invention, an early type of fritter, spread to Northern Europe during the 15th century. It proved popular in Germany, England and the Netherlands, and its the latter country which plays a big part in the donut story.

This is because Dutch travellers exported the rich pastry to the United States. At this time, it was known as olykoeks, which translates to oily cakes. 

In 1847, Captain Hanson Gregory, during a voyage across the Atlantic, claimed to have invented the donut as we know it today at least, in terms of its shape. The way he presumably did it, however, is the stuff of legend. As he prepared to snack on his pastry treat, Gregory needed to suddenly grab hold of the ships steering wheel with both hands. With no table or other furniture to rest his pastry on, he had to improvise. So he impaled it on one of the wheels spokes. This, of course, produced the famous central hole which is synonymous with current day donuts. 

It took close to a further century until the first donut machine was created. Adolph Levitt, in 1920, manufactured a device which churned out identical, fresh ringed pastries in a speedy fashion. As it ramped up production, it also ramped up profits.

Donut-based franchises such as Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts were founded in the 1930s and 1950s respectively, and the spread of donuts as a worldwide phenomenon followed suit. 

Deluxe Donut and Mocha Milkshake 

Coffee and donuts is a classic breakfast combination. You have a nice, freshly brewed coffee to wake up the senses. Then on the side, you have a sweet pastry which provides a decadent start to the day. However, instead of consuming each item separately, have you ever thought about combining coffee and donuts into one sweet, wondrous treat?

Well thats what this recipe is all about. It includes coffee. It includes donuts. And for that extra indulgence, it even boasts chocolate and whipped cream.  This is a beverage you will never want to stop drinking. 

What you will need: 

  • Milk (700ml)

  • Plain chocolate (75g)

  • Vanilla ice cream (four scoops)

  • Coffee granules (1 tbsp)

  • Monin Donut Syrup (60ml)

  • Fresh cream (240ml)

  • Whipped cream dispenser

  • Whipped cream charger

- First of all, place half of the milk into a pan and bring it just to the boil. Break up the chocolate into chunks and place into a separate jug alongside the coffee granules. Pour the boiled milk over the chocolate and coffee, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth with everything melted. Once done, set aside the mixture to cool. 

- Once it has cooled, place the mixture into a blender. Add the remaining milk and the four scoops of ice cream. Blend everything together until the combination of ingredients is, like before, nice and smooth. This mixture will fill approximately four tall glasses.

- Now its time to focus on the whipped cream. Pour the fresh cream and Monin Donut Syrup into a whipped cream dispenser. Ensure the dispenser is secured tight and a cream charger has been screwed into the device.

Shake for a few seconds to produce a light, donut-infused whipped cream. Squirt a generous amount onto the mocha milkshake. For an extra touch of finesse and to make the drink truly worthy of gracing Instagram grate some chocolate on top of the whipped cream.
