Monin Apple Pie Syrup is just one of a delicious range of flavours, used by coffee shops such as Costa Coffee and enjoyed across the country and further afield.

The bottles come in a 70cl Glass Bottle, and a 1l Plastic bottle variation which is ideal for bars, cafes and coffee shops, but can also be used at home.
 

 

Background

An apple pie is, understandably, one of the most iconic desserts on the planet. It begins with baked apples, infused with touches of spice and sweetness and encased in a flaky, buttery pastry.

 And to finish everything off, you cant go wrong with a large dollop of whipped cream on the side. Its delicious. Its indulgent And its, somehow, all encapsulated in a bottle of Monin Apple Pie Syrup. 

The syrups flavour, a deep combination of apple, biscuit, butter, caramel, and a hint of spice, is excellent for adding to a diverse selection of beverages and desserts.

The History 

Despite being synonymous with America, apple pie didnt begin its life in the States. Its origins trace all the way back to the 14th century in England, casting doubt on the saying As American as apple pie.

The first iteration of the desert crafted way back in 1381 was a far cry from the sugar-filled treat we enjoy today. Back then sugar was scarce and, as a result, really expensive, meaning the apple pie of the day contained no added sugar.

Strangely, the pastry topping was not eaten and was used as a container later being ominously dubbed a coffin. The pies filling included raisins, figs, pears and apples.

Less than 200 years later, and the apple pie started to shape into the dessert we know today. Sugar had become much more readily available, and the coffin was now prepared with the intention of being eaten.

While it spread across Europe, with countries such as the Netherlands interpreting the dish in their own way, America was late to the apple pie party. The reason for this was simple: North America could only produce one apple variety, the crab apple, which is notorious for its sour and unpleasant taste.

However, thanks to trading routes in the middle of the 17th century, trees with palatable apples landed in the States. Although the fruit didnt truly blossom for another few decades, and this was down to imported European honey bees pollinating the trees. 

America in So Many Words: Words That Have Shaped America, a 1697 book by Allen Metcalf, has the distinction of being the first American published work to reference apple pie.

Later, two apple pie recipes appeared in American Cookery, the countrys first cookbook. All of this set the wheels in motion for the apple pie to become a patriotic symbol for America.

Baked Apples with Whipped Cream

Sometimes, the simplest recipes are the tastiest. That is definitely the case with this baked apple recipe, which is so easy a young child could prepare it.

nd yet, the elevated sweetness and warmth  of this delicious dish with a cheeky portion of apple pie-inspired whipped cream on the side will leave you never wanting to go back to plain old apples again.  

What you will need: 

  • Three eating apples 

  • Cinnamon (1 tsp)

  • Brown sugar (1 tbsp) 

  • Demerara sugar (1 tsp)

  • A knob of butter

  • Handful of chopped hazelnuts 

  • Fresh cream (240ml)

  • Monin Apple Pie Syrup (60ml)

  • Whipped cream dispenser

  • Whipped cream charger

- Begin by setting the oven to  gas mark 6/200C. Place the brown sugar, cinnamon and chopped hazelnuts into a bowl, mixing the ingredients together. 

- For the apples, use an apple corer to remove the cores. When thats done, stand the apples up in a suitable baking dish, and fill the holes with the hazelnut mixture. Once the mixture is distributed evenly between the apples, place a small blob of butter on top. Sprinkle the demerara sugar over the apples. 

- Place the baking dish in the oven for approximately 20 minutes. This can take longer depending on the apple used, so check to see if they are cooked through before removing from the oven. 

- Get a whipped cream dispenser, pour in the Monin Apple Pie Syrup and fresh cream, and securely close the device. Attach a cream charger, shake the dispenser for a few seconds, and voila: fluffy whipped cream with an apple pie flavour. 

- Remove the apples from the oven and serve with a lavish amount of the whipped cream.
