Monin Blood Orange Syrup
Monin Blood Orange Syrup is just one of a delicious range of flavours, used by coffee shops such as Costa Coffee and enjoyed across the country and further afield.

The bottles come in a 70cl Glass Bottle, and a 1l Plastic bottle variation which is ideal for bars, cafes and coffee shops, but can also be used at home.

Blood oranges are prized for their sweet, almost berry-like flavour and the rich redness of their flesh. Their distinctive crimson flesh is coloured by a pigment that is found in a variety of flowers and other fruits, but is not normally present in citrus fruits and it is this beautiful mutation that sets them apart from the rest of the orange family.

This succulent and sweet flavour makes this blood orange syrup the perfect way to add a truly indulgent twist to drinks, desserts or even just a glass of water.

When you use the Blood Orange flavouring with a whipped cream dispenser and chargers the citric tang combines perfectly with the airy bubbles of the lightly whipped cream.

The non-bloody history of blood oranges

Blood oranges have been cultivated in the southern Mediterranean since the 18th century when farmers in Italy began to grow the striking looking oranges that historians believe would have been discovered at about that time.

The most popular variety of blood orange is the Tarocco, which is still grown in a number of places in Italy because it is one of the sweetest types on the market. The Tarocco is known to many as half blood because it has relatively pale flesh which is just tinged with the red and its believed to be a mutation of the Spanish Sanguinello variety which is native to Spain.

Since its discovery in 1929, the Sanguinello has been a popular choice among blood orange enthusiasts alongside the darker Moro which has the deepest colouring which can range from ruby  to almost black and including red peel as well.

Unripe Moro fruit are a vibrant green colour but it is their deeper reds that are often used for their colour as well as their sweet, fragrant flavour.

The family of pigments that give blood oranges their vibrantly coloured flesh is the same as that which makes aubergines purple and cornflowers blue.

This pigment is thought to have a range of health benefits from lowering the risk of heart disease to limiting the growth of cataracts.

NOTE: If Monin Blood Orange is mixed with Milk/Steamed Milk/Hot Milk it will curdle dues to the citrus within the syrup, please note before purchase.
